Memo of Understanding

Student __________________________________ Date _____________________

The overall goal of THE CHARTER SCHOOL is to establish a community of parents, teachers and students who are committed to learning. Together we will strive to develop a student body of autonomous learners, responsible for themse1ves, their behavior, and their schoolwork through interaction with adults who serve as guides and facilitators.

To achieve this goal, certain understandings between the school and those families who enroll are necessary.

The school agrees that it will

  • provide a learning environment consistent with the developmental level of the student.
  • set high expectations for student's self-directed behavior and personal responsibility.
  • communicate with parents on an ongoing basis on student progress.
  • consult with experts in education to continually reflect on, evaluate and develop the learning environment.

The family agrees that

  • I/We understand and support the philosophy of THE CHARTER SCHOOL.
  • I/We will make sure the student is at school on time with appropriate materials.
  • I/We will read correspondence and sign notices sent home with the student in a timely manner.
  • I/We will set aside a homework time for the student to complete individual assignments.
  • I/We will attend parent/teacher/student conferences. Other meetings can be arranged at a mutually convenient time.
  • I/We will not allow non-enrolled siblings or other children we may bring with us to play on the playground or go anywhere on the premises unless accompanied by an adult.
  • I am/We are ultimately responsible for the student's appropriate behavior in school.
  • I/We understand that THE CHARTER SCHOOL cannot operate without the participation of its families; therefore, I/we agree to volunteer 10 hours per semester, in whatever way we are able.

Volunteer activities include but are not limited to the following: work days on site, committee work, classroom help (field trips, tutoring, assisting teacher), transporting children to school, general purpose calling.
